The General Settings screen holds the main catalog configuration: how the catalog fits into your theme, the catalog mode, the main listing page, categories, SEO, breadcrumbs, price and currency. This page lists every section and links to the detailed guides.
Go to Products > Settings > General Settings. Change the settings and click Save changes at the bottom of the screen.
Finding a setting
Use the Search settings & docs field on the settings screen to find an option by name or by the problem you want to solve. The results list the matching settings with links and related documentation pages.
Catalog Layout Integration
Select the Main Catalog Page and choose how the catalog uses your theme layout. Depending on the integration method you’ll see either the Layout mode options (Advanced Mode, Theme Mode or Simple Mode) or the options for the Show Catalog block and shortcode, such as Show main catalog page content everywhere. See Catalog theme integration.
Edit Mode
Product Edit Mode decides how you edit products in the admin: with the Classic Editor or with Blocks (Gutenberg). If another plugin forces the block editor for products, the Classic Editor option can’t be selected.
Catalog Mode
Choose Web Store, Inquiry Catalog, Affiliate Catalog or Simple Catalog. See Choose a Catalog Mode.
Catalog Label
Catalog Singular Name and Catalog Plural Name rename “Product” and “Products” in the admin menu and screens, so you can call your items whatever you sell, for example “Car” and “Cars”. To change the texts visitors see, use the Front-end Labels.
Main listing page
- Enable Main Listing Page – uncheck it if you don’t want a main catalog page and display the products with the [show_products] shortcode instead.
- Listing shows at most – the number of products per page on catalog listings (12 by default).
- Main listing shows – products, main categories or both. See Main categories on product listing.
- Default order – Sort by Newest or Sort by Name. This is also the default choice in the sorting drop-down. See Product Sorting.
Categories Settings
- Categories Parent URL – the URL part that comes before the category name in category page addresses (products-category by default).
- Category Page shows – see Subcategories on category page.
- Categories Display – see Display categories as links.
- Disable Image on Category Page – see Disable Category Image.
- Show Related – see Related Products.
SEO Settings
- Archive SEO Title – the title tag of the main catalog listing page. If you use an SEO plugin, set this title there instead. In Yoast SEO, look for the archive title of the product post type.
- Enable SEO title separator – keeps the separator between your Archive SEO Title and the rest of the title tag. It’s on by default and applies only when Archive SEO Title is set.
- Enable Structured Data – adds schema.org product structured data to each product page. See Product catalog schema.org markup.
Breadcrumbs Settings
- Enable Catalog Breadcrumbs – shows the path to the current catalog page with links to its parent pages and breadcrumb schema markup. It’s off by default.
- Main listing breadcrumbs title – the name of the main catalog page in the breadcrumbs.
Payment and currency
Turn the price on or off, choose the currency, its symbol and position, and the thousands and decimal separators. In Web Store mode this section also has the tax settings. See Set Catalog Currency, Product catalog without price and Shopping Cart Tax.
Additional Settings
Disable SKU and Disable MPN remove these fields from product edit screens and product pages. See Product SKU.
Other General Settings screens
The General Settings menu also contains Import / Export (see Simple Product Import), Support, and the screens of your catalog mode: Shopping Cart or Quote Cart in the Web Store and Inquiry Catalog modes, plus Customer Panel when customer accounts are enabled, or Affiliate Button in Affiliate Catalog mode.
Configuration Wizard and reset
The Configuration Wizard button above the settings opens the Getting Started screen, where you can choose the catalog mode again. The Reset Catalog Settings button opens the System Status screen and asks you to confirm before the catalog settings are reset to their defaults.
