Catalog Filter Widgets and Blocks

Catalog filters help visitors narrow the product list by category, price or size, change the sort order and search the catalog. Each filter is available both as a classic widget and as a block in the Catalog block category.

Available filters

  • Catalog Search (widget: Product Search) – a search form that returns only products. See Product Search Widget.
  • Catalog Sort (widget: Product Sort) – a drop-down that changes the product order. See Product Sorting.
  • Catalog Category Filter (widget: Product Category Filter) – filters the current product list by category.
  • Catalog Price Filter (widget: Product Price Filter) – lets visitors enter a minimum and maximum price.
  • Catalog Size Filter (widget: Product Size Filter) – shows range sliders for product length, width and height. A slider shows up only when the listed products have different values for that size. See Product Size.
  • Active Filters (widget: Catalog Active Filters) – lists the filters that are currently applied, each with an option to remove it.

The widget names follow your catalog label. If your catalog items are called “Items”, the widgets are called “Item Category Filter”, “Item Sort” and so on.

Where the filters show up

The category, price, size and sort filters and Active Filters work on the main catalog listing page, category pages and product search results. On other pages they stay hidden. Catalog Search can be placed on any page.

To use a filter on a page with the [show_products] shortcode or the Show Products block, check Enable also for shortcodes in the widget or block settings. Catalog Search and Active Filters don’t have this option.

The filter widgets, including Catalog Search, don’t show up when the catalog uses the simple theme integration mode. See Catalog theme integration.

Catalog Filters Bar

The catalog adds a widget area called Catalog Filters Bar (or “Product Filters Bar”, depending on your catalog label). It appears above the product list on catalog pages. The recommended widgets for it are Catalog Search, Catalog Price Filter, Catalog Sort and Catalog Category Filter.

Manage it in Appearance > Widgets or in the Customizer. When at least one filter is applied, the bar shows a Reset Filters link that clears all of them.

You can also display the filters bar anywhere with the [catalog_filters_bar] shortcode.

Using filters as blocks

In the block editor or the Site Editor, click the plus icon and open the Catalog category, or type the filter name in the search field. Each filter block has a title field, and the category, price, size and sort filters also have the Enable also for shortcodes option. See All Product Catalog Blocks for the full block list.
