eCommerce Product Catalog allows to set unlimited amount of attributes for each product.
Product attributes configuration
First set maximum number of attributes available for each product and set the default values. Go to Products > Settings > Attributes and change the Number of attributes. After the number is set, click the Update button near the field.
Now the right amount of available attributes is set. Set the attribute default values in the Attribute Defaults table. It is optional but will make product adding faster.
Set default attribute name, value and unit. Default means that it is possible to change those values for every individual product.
Attributes source
The Attributes source setting controls where the product attribute data comes from:
- Attribute names and values set per product (default) – each product keeps its own names, values and units. The defaults are pre-filled when you add a new product.
- Global attribute names with values set per product – names and units come from the Attribute Defaults table. You can change only the values for each product.
- Global attribute names and values for all products – names, values and units come from the Attribute Defaults table. Per-product attribute fields are disabled.
If you change the defaults later, you can copy them into your existing products with the Overwrite Existing Product Attributes Data tool on the same screen.
Attributes on product edit/add page
After the attributes number and default values are set up the attributes box will show up on product add/edit page.
Only attributes with values set will be shown on product page so if any attribute is not needed for the product just leave the value for it empty.
How to disable product attributes?
Sometimes attributes are not needed at all for the project. If this is the case, just set the Number of attributes to zero and click the Update button.
With number of product attributes set to zero the whole feature will not work. It means that no attribute box will be present on product add/edit page and no attributes will be displayed on product page.
How to use product attributes?
Product attributes are often used for product specifications such as:
- Color
- Size
- Brand
- Manufacturer
… and many other product specific characteristics.
Size, weight and comparison
The Standard Attributes section on the same screen sets the units for the product size and weight fields. The Comparison section turns on product comparison.
For options that customers choose, such as size or color with a price change, use product variations instead.
