To define default price ranges please go to Catalog > Settings > Attributes. You will find the default price ranges table on the bottom:
Only the ranges with range name assigned will be used. For example you can specify only 4 available ranges:
- 0 – 50
- 50 – 250
- 250 – 1000
- > 1000

The available price ranges will show up in Price Filter widget:
The customer can enter a custom price range or click one of the available ranges.
Each range is clickable, has a checkbox and the available products within range.
If the range is displayed on product category page it will filter only products within this category. Also the product count will be only from the visited category.
